Mountain Bike Programs
Technique, resilience, and confidence
The CCMS Development Mountain Bike Program is designed to help young riders build the skills, confidence, and endurance needed to develop a lifelong love of cycling and the outdoors. Through guided rides, skills training, and trail-based adventures, athletes learn mountain bike technique, safety, fitness, trail etiquette, teamwork, bike maintenance, nutrition, first aid, and trail stewardship.
The program is intended for riders entering 3rd–8th grade who already have some experience riding on dirt and trails and are ready to continue progressing their skills in a supportive and fun team environment.
New this year, Devo Mini provides a smaller, age-appropriate experience for rising 1st and 2nd graders during the summer session. Athletes are grouped by skill level, experience, and goals to ensure a positive experience for every rider.
Beyond riding, participants are encouraged to give back to the trails they enjoy through trail stewardship and service projects, helping foster a strong connection to the outdoor community. Whether athletes are looking to improve their riding, explore new trails, build friendships, or prepare for future racing opportunities, the Devo Program provides a fun and supportive pathway for growth both on and off the bike.

Team Jr. Devo
The CCMS Devo Jr Team is designed to help young riders build confidence, develop strong mountain biking skills, and foster a lifelong love of riding in a fun and supportive environment. While skill development, teamwork, and having fun are our primary focus, we also believe that healthy competition can be a valuable part of an athlete's growth. Riders are encouraged—but not required—to participate in the Summit Series, a collection of six youth mountain bike races held every other Wednesday throughout the summer in Summit County. These events provide a low-pressure introduction to racing, emphasizing sportsmanship, personal achievement, and community while helping athletes become comfortable competing. Whether athletes choose to race or simply enjoy riding with friends, the Devo Jr Team focuses on building confidence, resilience, and a passion for mountain biking that lasts a lifetime.
Team Devo
The CCMS Development Team is designed for riders who are ready to take their mountain biking skills to the next level through structured training, skill progression, and increased riding volume. Athletes will continue to build confidence and technical ability while developing fitness, trail awareness, sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic. While winning is never our primary focus, we believe competition can be a powerful tool for growth, teaching perseverance, goal setting, and resilience. Riders are encouraged to participate in local and regional race opportunities, including the Summit Series and Colorado High School Cycling League events when appropriate. Whether athletes aspire to race competitively or simply become stronger, more confident riders, the Development Team provides a supportive environment where they can challenge themselves, build lasting friendships, and deepen their passion for mountain biking and the outdoors.
High School Race Team
CCMS proudly supports the Lake County High School MTB Race Team. The CCMS High School Race Team is designed for students in grades 9–12 who attend Lake County High School or are homeschooled and affiliated with Lake County High School. Led by Head Coach Tamira Jenlink and assistant coaches Jeff Spencer and David Curtis. The program provides athletes with opportunities to develop advanced mountain biking skills, improve fitness, compete in the Colorado High School Cycling League, and be part of a supportive team environment.
Athletes planning to join the race team are encouraged to participate in the six-week Spring Club Session beginning June 2, which meets twice per week and helps riders prepare for the upcoming season. The regular season begins July 15, with practices held approximately 3–5 days per week.
Registration is completed through both Cloud City Mountain Sports and the Colorado High School Cycling League. The season includes four regular-season races in Leadville, Eagle, Glenwood Springs, and Nathrop, with qualifying athletes advancing to the State Championship in late October. Whether athletes are pursuing podium finishes or personal growth, the High School Race Team emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication, and a lifelong passion for mountain biking.

That's perfectly okay. While some of our programs are race-focused, our primary goal is to help young athletes build confidence, skills, friendships, and a lifelong love of skiing and the outdoors. Not every athlete will pursue racing, and there are many ways to enjoy Nordic skiing throughout life. That's completely normal. Our coaches create a supportive and encouraging environment where riders can build confidence at their own pace. We focus on progression, personal growth, and having fun rather than comparing athletes to one another.
-
Riders should arrive with a working bike, helmet, water, snacks, weather-appropriate clothing, and a positive attitude. Coaches will provide additional information about recommended gear and practice preparation before the season begins.
-
Success isn't measured by race results alone. Our goal is to help athletes build confidence, resilience, fitness, friendships, and a lifelong love of cycling and the outdoors. If a rider leaves our program excited to get back on their bike, we consider that a success.
